Who We Are

For more than 70 years, Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub has been proud to be the neighborhood spot where families, friends, and communities across the Northeast come together. Known by most as The Nines, we’re a family-friendly restaurant serving classic New England favorites, homestyle pub fare, steaks, seafood, ice-cold drinks, and the warm hospitality that keeps guests coming back generation after generation.

At The Nines, no one is a stranger and all are welcome. Whether you’re gathering for dinner with family, meeting friends for trivia, celebrating a special occasion, or watching the big game, we’re a place where people can relax, connect, and feel right at home. We’re also proud to be the Official Family Restaurant of the Boston Red Sox, where kids eat free after every Sox win.

Today, The Nines operates more than 90 restaurants throughout the Northeast, serves more than 11 million guests annually, and employs more than 4,000 team members. Many of our team members have been with The Nines for more than a decade, helping create a culture built on trust, authenticity, belonging, and care for one another.

How It All Began

Back in the 1950’s our founder Charlie Doe had an idea to create a restaurant that was all about great food and great times. Charlie wanted a comfortable place where locals would always feel warm and welcome. A place that respected their patronage and their wallets, and somewhere where they would be treated right. So, when Charlie opened the first Ninety Nine at 99 State Street in Boston, he did so with these four words as his guiding principle: WE TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT. We still are following this principle today.

At the opening of this first restaurant, Charlie’s wife Shirley gave him a horseshoe for good luck, and that symbol has become a well-known and welcome sight for our guests to this day. More than 70 years later, Charlie’s mission of great, no-nonsense food and a deep appreciation for our guests, team members and community continues.

Giving Back to Our Communities

We believe deeply that treating people right extends beyond the four walls of our restaurants and into the local communities we have the honor of serving. This is something we take seriously and our guests and team members love helping raise money for deserving nonprofits year after year. We’ve proudly raised more than $19 million over the years for the community, countless local sponsorships and our four main charitabile organizations:

  • The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the world’s leading centers of cancer research and treatment
  • The Folded Flag Foundation, a nonprofit that provides educational scholarships and support grants to Gold Star family members
  • Local Boys & Girls Clubs that support youth throughout New England and New York
  • Pine Street Inn, New England’s largest homeless services provider
